Crazy how the article keeps describing betty as “fat” when she’s like a size 10/12 tops.

within the context of the series which is set in the mid-2000s— a landscape for encouraged eating disorders and rampant fatphobia of anyone who did not have a specific body size—, betty is described and socialized as a fat woman. her ostracism is due largely in part to her being perceived as fat in comparison to her colleagues. different sizes and body types have different social stigma attached in different time periods/cultural phases
